In 2021, 59% of eThekwini voters did not vote. Every dry tap, every blackout, every hole in the road on this ward's record happened under a council chosen by a minority. The biggest party in ward 36 is not the DA, the ANC, the EFF or the MKP. It is the people who stayed home.

Virginia Reservoir collapse. The tower ran empty for days; valves shut, then a slow 12 hour recovery.

Northern aqueduct air valve crisis. 72 valves damaged in the 2022 floods, still unreplaced. Three weeks of widespread outages.
Aug 2024
Algae blocked the Durban Heights filters. Bulk supply cut. Virginia ran empty. Even the tanker filling stations ran dry.
Oct 2025
Emergency aqueduct shutdown after a major leak at Piesang River. Days of instability, high-lying areas worst hit.
Mar 2026
The Nagle Dam sleeve valve fused shut. Durban Heights reservoirs ran virtually empty. Water rationing citywide.

Staff the depots properly
Push for enough plumbers, electricians and refuse fleet mechanics so a burst is fixed in days, not queued for weeks.
Secure the infrastructure
Demand security for the substations, cables and pump stations that keep getting stripped and vandalised, including Parkhill and Riverside.
Keep the record public
Publish every ward incident and its repair status openly, so the city is accountable to residents in the open, every month.
